The world has become a global village and no age is too young to prepare for the future. On 18th February, 2020, the students of Class V presented their Model United Nations(MUN)Mock Session 2019-20 with special reference to 17 SDGs. A MUN is a simulation of an actual United Nation’s conference, where students are tasked with solving a global issue through research, drafting, lobbying and debate to pass a suitable resolution. Class V students took on the roles of different delegates, speakers and chair persons representing different countries. They all worked together and took part in discussions and reached to a solution for the agenda they were assigned. They gave information about the six UN organs and different agencies to replicate the work of the UN and to view the problems faced by the International communities. A video of the speech given by the present Secretary General, Mr.Antonio Guteress was played, where he declared the year 2020 as an action year for the completion of the 17 SDGs. The topic stipulated for discussion too was the achievement failure of these goals. The session also included the Peace Keeping Force’s message to spread love and peace. The entire process and discussion took place under formal ‘Rules of Procedure’ to truly model the format of the UN. The event was witnessed by the students of Class IV for whom it was a learning and informative session. It concluded with the speech by one of the delegates giving the message that SDG is a universal call to save the planet and to achieve sustainable, inclusive human development, peace and prosperity. It was followed by a graceful peace dance on the song, ‘Lift the peace of the banner.’ Participating in a MUN helped the students develop leadership skills, research, writing, public speaking, and problem-solving skills. Moreover, coming up with solutions that were acceptable to a majority of the representatives also inculcated skills of negotiation, conflict resolution, and cooperation among the different nations.
